Customisable properties

The properties of the end product are determined by the quality and type of the ingredients. By means of filler concentration and additives, the following properties of the compound can be customised according to the application field:

  • melting point
  • viscosity
  • tensile and flexural strength
  • impact strength
  • elongation at break
  • colour
  • weather resistance
  • insect resistance

JELU has measured the properties of the WPC granulates in numerous test series. For precise test results on our products, see WPC Granulate.

Hardwood and softwood
Both hardwood and softwood are suitable for WPC. JELU processes softwood from coniferous woods, such as spruce, pine or fir, and hardwood from leaf trees, such as birch and sycamore. The properties of the WPC products are affected in particular by the fineness of the wood fibres, the slenderness ratio of the fibres (ratio of width to length) and the purity of the grade. For precise specifications on wood fibres from JELU, see Wood Flours.
Synthetic polymers
For WPC production, mainly synthetic polymers and biopolymers with a processing temperature of less than 200°C are currently used. Higher temperatures have adverse effects on the wood content. The primary synthetic polymers used are polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
