Food-safe bioplastic

JELU-WERK offers a true alternative to traditional plastics with its food-safe bioplastic JELUPLAST®. The composite made from natural fibres and plastic is free from formaldehyde, chlorine, phenol, plasticisers and PVC. And it is suitable for coming into contact with food because it does not release any substances into the foodstuff.

Versatile bioplastic for food

JELUPLAST® is used to manufacture packaging, disposable cutlery and disposable tableware. As packaging material, it keeps food fresh and aromatic for longer. In addition, smell, taste, texture and appearance remain unchanged. Our bioplastic is also used in the manufacture of small parts used in the food industry, including conveyor components such as mesh belts or bowls.

Since all these products come into contact with food, they must meet stringent requirements. Our biocompound complies with the European specifications for food safety and does not pose any risk to health.

Sustainable and eco-friendly

JELUPLAST® bioplastic is a wood plastic composite (WPC), a compound made of wood fibres and plastic. Using the renewable resource wood is good for the environment because fewer mineral-based plastics are used. By using the wood plastic compound, manufacturers can thus substantially improve the life cycle assessment of their products. Furthermore, no cultivation areas for food plants such as maize or potatoes are taken up. JELUPLAST® is fully compostable in industrial composting facilities. As a consequence, huge amounts of plastic waste can be avoided during major events, because tableware and cutlery can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Bioplastic with variable properties

JELUPLAST® can be moulded three-dimensionally and processed using common plastics manufacturing processes. Processing by injection moulding, extrusion, compression moulding, blow moulding or foaming is possible.

The biobased share of the compound is variable and adjusted to customer requirements. The wood fibre content is between 50 and 70%. Upon request, we deliver fully biobased biocompounds. In this case, the plastics part consists of thermoplastic starch (TPS), polylactides (PLA) or polyethylene (PE) from sugar cane.

Our food-safe bioplastic JELUPLAST® can be supplied as compounded granulate. We offer premixed compounds with clearly defined properties, but also custom compounds, which we adjust to the specific application of our customers.
