WPC for furniture
JELUPLAST® by JELU is a versatile Wood Plastic Composite (WPC), which is now finding its way into the furniture industry. The composite produced from wood and plastic is lightweight and mouldable, yet sturdy and is suitable for the manufacture of items in everyday use, such as chairs, decorative furnishing elements and panels.
Advantages of WPC for the furniture industry
The JELUPLAST® composite offers a host of moulding options. It is three-dimensionally mouldable and there are no limits on the design possibilities. The compound can be processed into seat shells and chairs by injection moulding. Even cantilever chair production can be realised using the biocomposite; here the WPC is used as a substitute for plastic, thereby contributing to a better CO2 footprint. JELUPLAST® is free of formaldehyde, chlorine, phenol, plasticisers and PVC.
Furniture components such as handles, knobs and feet made from WPC are cheaper than their metal counterparts, but just as robust and withstand high strain on account of their wood content. Plinths and furniture feet made from JELUPLAST® are especially impact-resistant, as they must withstand contact with vacuum cleaners. Panels for larger items of furniture such as cupboards and shelves are also manufactured from our WPC. The panels are used as doors, shelves, side and back walls or as the base for upholstered furniture. Such furniture components feature an attractive wood finish and can be assembled into pieces of furniture using normal screws or by gluing. Panels and mouldings made from JELUPLAST® can also be painted and lacquered.

WPC for furniture manufacturers
We supply the wood-plastic compound as WPC granulate. The proportion of wood fibres varies between 50 and 70%. The plastics used are polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), recycled polymers (PE, PP) and polylactides (PLA), the choice of which determines whether the WPC product will be durable or compostable. If using PLA, JELUPLAST® consists entirely of renewable resources. In this case, the use of mineral-oil-based plastics is completely eliminated.
WPC granulate with modified properties
Depending on the requirement, we can adapt the properties of the WPC granulate to the respective application by including additives. For example, we can supply composites that are particularly shock-resistant, have high bending strength or are flame-retardant. Since our compounds are more resistant to moisture and weathering than wood, JELUPLAST® offers an attractive option for manufacture of furniture for bathrooms, kitchens and saunas too, as well as for garden furniture. You determine the properties and we will supply the right granulate, either one of our premixed compounds or a compound individually tailored to your application. If you wish to adjust the physical-mechanical properties yourself, this is naturally also possible; in this case we will supply a basic compound containing no additives.
Can be processed like plastic
The wood-plastic compound can be processed on conventional plastic processing machines by injection moulding, compression moulding, extrusion, blow moulding and foaming. The fibre content of the WPC granulate gives the product a wood finish, creating a natural appearance. However, JELUPLAST® can also be painted and lacquered.
Versatile in use
JELUPLAST® is highly versatile thanks to its modifiable properties. Our WPC is suitable for various industries: Toys, food and furniture. Our application examples provide an insight into the versatility of the WPC material.
